This presentation was delivered as part of the Tribal Lands and Environment Forum: Virtual Gathering in August 2020 by Angie Hacker, Prosper Sustainability and Shasta Gaughen, Pala Band of Mission Indians.
From fire to food insecurity, climate change is a global health threat and tribal communities are on the front lines. Fortunately, there are many ways to reduce adverse effects on tribal physical, psychosocial, and cultural well-being. While many communities are ready to take action to safeguard themselves, the process can be overwhelming especially when capacity is strained. Presenters from the national Tribal Climate Health Project (led by the Pala Band of Mission Indians) will conduct a live, interactive webinar to share trainings, tools and resources developed to make it easier for tribes to collect and analyze climate and health data, community input, and strategies for vulnerability assessments and adaptation plans that are rooted in science, traditional knowledge, and community values.
