This Opening Plenary was delivered as the official opening of the Tribal Lands and Environment Forum: A Virtual Gathering in August 2021. Our opening keynote presentation this year featured Reggie Tupponce, Tribal Administrator, and Leigh Mitchell, Natural Resources & Environmental Protection Coordinator of the Upper Mattaponi Indian Tribe. They discussed the history, current work, and future plans of the Tribal Nations in Virginia. We also had special welcoming remarks by ITEP’s Executive Director, the chair of the TWAR Steering Committee, and senior staff from EPA.
