Lead exposure can cause serious health issues – especially for children. Even though lead-based paint was banned for consumer use in 1978, lead exposure from paint and other sources is still a concern. Lead-based paint remains a particular issue in Indian Country and other underserved communities given contamination in older housing stock. That’s why the U.S. EPA launched its “Community Lead Awareness” initiative to reduce childhood lead exposure in underserved communities.
