Pala Environmental Department has overseen our tribe’s solid waste program for over two decades, and we want to share some of the lessons that we’ve learned along the way. We will give our program history, synopsis of the waste streams we currently handle and how we pay for them. We’ll provide examples of pilots that we’ve tested, outreach conducted, and studies that have helped guide our program milestones. We especially want to focus on sharing information that will help other tribe’s create successful solid waste programs of their own, including: grants we have used; partnerships that have helped us with funding/technical support; outreach tools that have worked; reports/studies that help tribes better understand their own waste streams; and templates/SOP’s/forms that we have developed to share.
