When oil was discovered at Prudhoe Bay in 1968, land ownership disputes stood in the way of the construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline. The resulting law, the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) has had far reaching impacts. Even for people that live in Alaska, they have likely heard of ANCSA, but not know much about the law itself. The goal of this session is for attendees to learn more about ANCSA the law and its impacts. Including the background of the law, what it did, and learn about some specific sections and issues that may them to research this law even further.
