EPA estimated that in 2018 in the U.S., more food reached landfills than any other single material in our everyday trash (24 percent of the amount landfilled). Composting food scraps rather than sending them to landfills creates a product that can be used to help improve soils, grow the next generation of crops, and improve water quality. In this session, Janice Sims will facilitate a panel of Tribal Nations that have implemented successful composting programs. Speakers will discuss the benefits and challenges of composting in their communities and share tips for how others can start or improve their own composting initiatives.
