Beyond the Known: Understanding Emerging Contaminants

This 8-hour workshop, presented in partnership with the Tribal PFAS Working Group and the National Tribal Toxics Council, will provide an overview of emerging contaminants and their growing impact on human health, environmental quality, and Tribal and community resources. Topics will include PFAS and TFA, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), microplastics, disinfectant byproducts and treatments, and agrochemicals. Multiple speakers with technical and regulatory expertise will discuss contaminant sources, environmental pathways, current research, health and ecological concerns, sampling and monitoring considerations, and emerging regulatory trends. The workshop is intended for environmental professionals, Tribal environmental staff, emergency response personnel, water and wastewater professionals, and community stakeholders interested in understanding contaminants of emerging concern. Attendees will gain increased awareness of emerging contaminant issues, practical knowledge of environmental impacts and response considerations, and access to educational materials, presentations, and additional technical resources provided by speakers throughout the session.
