The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) received a Brownfields Multipurpose grant from the EPA and is using grant funds to evaluate reuse options and prepare vision plans to promote the redevelopment of three Brownfields sites. Community involvement and active participation are key elements to the success of this project so that the Community’s voice, values, and vision can be heard and to help inform future decisions. This session will provide a brief overview of the overall Brownfields program and will describe the Community engagement that was conducted. The presentation focus will be on the highly-effective Earth Day outreach event that resulted in meaningful and diverse input from Community members from various ages. Session attendees will learn how the program was developed and practical tips for productive outreach methods that are applicable to their programs.
