Your program has data. Does it have governance? This session is a plain-language introduction to data governance for tribal environmental staff. Using a fictional brownfield and dump site scenario, attendees work through five questions every program should be able to answer about their records. Real examples include a working tribal government data governance policy - including documented AI data use guidelines - and a document management system that ties brownfield and site documents to land parcels and facilities using metadata and unique identifiers, built by a small government GIS team. No technical background required. Attendees will walk away thinking differently about how their program collects, stores, and protects data and knowing exactly where to start.
