In this multi-part session, we will provide an overview of Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration (NRDAR); we will examine different methods and approaches used by NRDAR practitioners to determine and quantify injury and damages (the final steps to securing NRD settlements); and we discuss the nexus between ecological risk assessment and NRDA injury determination under CERCLA. We will end with a discussion on restoration planning.
Sovereign Tribal governments are Trustees that have legal standing to sue for damages when polluters injure natural resources that the Tribes hold in trust for the public. To secure NRD settlements, Trustees must engage in the NRDAR process. This session is designed to give resource managers and environmental staff a better understanding of this process including examples from specific cases both large and small.
