EPA/ORCR Regulatory Activities for PFAS
This session will address the emerging issue of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a class of widely used, long lasting chemicals, components of which break down very slowly over time. The presenters will provide a high-level overview of EPA’s actions addressing PFAS, and then will focus on two rulemakings being developed by the Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery (ORCR) under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The presenters will describe the rulemakings, the rulemaking process, and how these rules will revise the existing RCRA hazardous waste management regulations with respect to PFAS chemicals. Following the presentation, the presenters will answer questions and host a discussion to obtain input on potential impacts PFAS and emerging contaminants have on tribal lands. Listening Session with the Tribal PFAS Workgroup
Come meet the Tribal PFAS Workgroup (TPWG), and find out what we do and more about our objectives, goals and priorities. Tribal Nations can use us as a one-stop shop for resources that will assist in dealing with PFAS. We encourage you to speak about your struggles, challenges and issues dealing with PFAS contamination. Tribes will have access to research studies, maps, documents, guidance and anything else they would like upon request. TPWG members will be onsite to answer any questions attendees may have. This will be an opportunity for Tribal Nations to come together as one voice and speak about their concerns and challenges regarding PFAS.
This presentation was delivered as part of the Tribal Lands and Environment Forum in August 2022.
