EPA would like to talk with attendees about its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance in Indian country. The conversation would provide a broad overview of EPA’s inspection and enforcement program and a specific emphasis on underground storage tank (UST) and drinking water compliance. By way of example, the session will focus on:
(1) Agency communication with Tribal leaders about inspection, compliance assistance, and enforcement activities;
(2) when EPA conducts on-site inspections at USTs; and
(3) when and how EPA takes informal and formal enforcement to address noncompliance, including actions that may result in the assessment of financial penalties against UST owners/operators.
The discussion will place special emphasis on EPA’s ongoing implementation of its Tribal UST Compliance Pilot which focuses on Tribal government USTs.
