The Federal Acquisition Regulation Part 23, requires the identification and use of best management practices (BMPs) that effectively achieve greener remediation. A site risk management screening framework for the use of inactive solid waste disposal sites and unregulated solid waste disposal sites on Tribal lands is presented. A new ASTM Standard provides CERCLA 128(a) grant recipients with a checklist for use by Tribes to conduct internal audits of their site assessment and characterization activities.
Learning objectives:
- Use life cycle analysis to promote more efficient remediation
- Recognize no-cost and low-cost opportunities for greener remediation
- Apply instructions and checklist for Tribes to evaluate the types of beneficial uses at inactive or unregulated waste sites, with a focus on exposure pathways unique to Tribal cultures
- Identify continuing obligations and long-term stewardship issues at brownfields projects
