The Cherokee Nation has created a pipeline of site investigations for themselves that spans from building materials to underground storage tanks (USTs) by partnering with individual cities within their vast reservation. One focus site for the Cherokee Nation is in Marble City, a small town about 45 minutes south of Tahlequah, the Cherokee capital. Currently a row of roofless limestone walls, this cluster of buildings in the center of town used to be a bank, a post office, a grocery store, and a gas station. By partnering with the Oklahoma Corporation Commission Brownfields Department for Ground Penetrating Radar and Electromagnetic surveys, Cherokee Nation was able to determine the best path forward to lead this property into its new life as a Farmers Market.
