Batteries are ubiquitous in the products that power our daily lives. Collecting batteries for recycling rather than sending them to landfills recovers critical minerals that can be recycled into new batteries, and prevents fires caused by batteries that are disposed of in household trash. In this session, participants will hear from panelists that have implemented successful battery collection programs and from EPA's efforts to develop battery collection best practices and updates for battery management under the universal waste regulations. Speakers will discuss the benefits and challenges of battery collection in their communities and share tips for how others can start or improve their own battery collection initiatives.
