The EPA Office of Emergency Management (OEM) staff will provide an overview of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) for preparing and protecting citizens and first responders from potential chemical accidents. The session is focused on reporting requirements for facilities handling hazardous chemicals, including releases of chemicals, and managing reports and providing access to information to the public by EPCRA implementing agencies. A tribal representative will share their experience in establishing a Tribal Emergency Response Commission (TERC), success and issues, EPCRA implementation in the tribal region, and building relationship with state and local EPCRA implementing agencies. In addition, EPA Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) staff will demonstrate various tracker tools to assist in locating TRI facilities on or near tribal regions.
