The Lac du Flambeau Tribe's exercise of inherent sovereignty, through the enactment and implementation of Tribal law, allowed the Tribe to acquire and provide for the remediation of Brownfield properties in accordance with the Tribal Council's land re-acquisition policy. This presentation will inform attendees about the history of contaminated properties, the Tribal regulatory process, and the use of Prospective Purchaser Agreements to remediate and provide for the acquisition of impacted properties while minimizing exposure to clean up liability. This successful approach can serve as a useful example to other Tribal governments.
