Pala Environmental Department did a pilot last year, to reduce/replace the amount of plastic (disposable) containers that we use daily to serve tribal senior/employee lunches, tribal hall events and in the staff breakroom. We also nixed the individual/gallon water bottles used in our tribal administration. This tribal case study will review how we developed project objectives, the different tools/resources we used (including CBSM), the cost savings to the tribe, and how we conducted outreach to an audience that was initially not very keen to implement this program. We’ll also share a Tribal Resource Guide & Template that we developed to share with other tribes looking to do similar solid waste reduction projects at their tribal departments, schools, after-school programs, and senior lunch delivery.
