Tribal Nations are often impacted by multiple, interrelated environmental issues on their lands such as contamination from Superfund Site(s) (i.e., CERCLA sites), problems exacerbated by climate change (e.g., drought), and subsequent degradation of habitats. In this interactive session, we will present a case study on additional research Tribal Nations can conduct to generate relevant data to supplement the CERCLA process while simultaneously increasing climate resiliency and improving habitats. We will present a case study of multiple interrelated projects being conducted by the Spokane Tribe of Indians, show how the project design and results of these projects relates to and informs work at the nearby Superfund sites and vice versa, and discuss how other Tribal Nations can leverage available funding sources to address multiple environmental issues on their lands and gather information that is relevant to their people.
