Alaska, a region renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife, also harbors a lesser-known story: the story of brownfield sites. In Tribal communities across the state, these abandoned or underutilized properties pose a unique challenge to environmental and community health. Yet, they also present opportunities for restoration and resilience. In this session, attendees will be able to watch compelling video footage from communities in the Bering Strait region of Alaska, where Tribes are working to identify, assess, and revitalize brownfield sites in their communities. Through the voices of Tribal and community members, the videos offer insight into how brownfields impact landscapes, economies, and Tribal sovereignty in Alaska. The video screening will be followed by a panel discussion with video participants and producers. Please join us to explore these stories and recognize the unique work Alaska Tribes are performing to revitalize their communities.
