Discussion will include how the Pueblo of Santa Ana is managing solid waste challenges with practical, community-driven solutions. Examples include outreach and education, and reuse ideas a small tribe can implement at their transfer station, such as a "swap shop" and partnering with reuse organizations for donation bins, a simple but effective model that could work for others with limited resources. Also discussed is how the transfer station is able to generate revenue on a small scale to put back into the program by recycling metals, cardboard, and aluminum cans. We will highlight our recent waste audit and results. Support from Tribal Administration, partnerships and grants will be discussed, while emphasizing engagement with the community to ensure long-term support.
