EPA's American Indian Environmental Office (AIEO) published the 2022 GAP Guidance on September 30, 2022, which supersedes the 2013 GAP Guidance. The new Guidance provides opportunities for Tribes to participate in GAP in a number of new and meaningful ways. The guidance's expanded flexibilities include the collection, transportation, backhaul and disposal services, on-going community outreach related to EPA programs, inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge (IK), and climate adaptation activities. At the 2023 TLEF, AIEO proposes to provide trainings that highlight the changes to the GAP Guidance, with a focus on AIEO's updated requirements to EPA-Tribal Environmental Plans (ETEPs), open dump cleanup requests, and how GAP supports the establishment of solid waste/hazardous waste programs.
