In this quarterly meeting of the Tribal Superfund Working Group, USGS staff provided an update on their Critical Minerals Pilot Program, and EPA's Office of Mountains Deserts and Plains staff provided an update on current efforts on their Environmental Monitoring and Remediation Technology Assessment Initiative (critical minerals technology assessment), current Tribal engagement and collaborations, and recent initiatives. EPA also is requesting your valued feedback on ways to enhance communication efforts with Tribes around risk. EPA looks forward to learning from your prior experiences, lessons learned, current efforts, and/or ideas moving forward. A few things they want to hear from you about include:
- What approaches do you use when you communicate risk with Tribal members and your communities (specifically on radiation risks)?
- What tools do you use to talk about risk?
- What best practices should be used when communicating risks at legacy mining sites? What practices should be avoided?
- Do you have examples of risk communication that has worked well that you would be able to share?
