Pala Tribe: Coping with Droughts and Climate Change
The Pala Tribe, like many other tribes, is particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts from drought, increased temperatures, and longer, drier periods. We are currently in a moderate drought, where we have seen that reduced rainfall and increasing temperatures are straining our aging infrastructure, impacting public health, and increasing our risk for wildfires on our reservation. Both current and projected climate change impacts have pushed Pala to begin a comprehensive drought management planning phase. We would like to provide an overview of our planning efforts to date, the tools that we use to obtain good, scientific data, the management tools that we are building to increase our resiliency from these impacts, and the grant funds we found to help us do all of this work. Presenters: Heidi Brow and Michelle Hallack-Alegria, Pala Band of Mission Indians
