Presenter: Angie Reed, Water Resources Planner, Penobscot
Indian Nation
Angie presents how the
Penobscot Nation Water Resources Program has helped Penobscot Nation’s citizens consume wild foods safely, and
communicate the cultural significance to the non-Native public.
The work to get the Nation’s
water quality monitoring data into their original database delayed the process
of entering and sending tissue toxin concentrations to the Water Quality
Exchange (WQX). However, this did not prevent
the Penobscot Nation from using the data. After many iterations of advisories
and outreach materials, they developed clear and attractive brochures and
posters as well as an engaging activity using goldfish snack crackers!
