Open dumps, a pervasive problem on several reservations, reveal broader community challenges and tell us more about our communities than just waste habits. Having toured and assessed the contents of hundreds of open dumps across the country, this panel has realized the greater wisdom can be gleaned from assessing open dumps. It's not always about avoiding disposal fees. Panelists will share wisdom learned from assessing dumps and interviewing Tribal residents. They will share how challenges can be identified and addressed when investing in open dump prevention. Through interactive presentations and facilitated knowledge-sharing, attendees will develop strategies to address their communities' unique waste management challenges. This session targets Tribal environmental professionals, waste managers, and federal partners working with Tribal communities.
