You’re invited to a conversation about:
• Identifying reuse and revitalization challenges at gas stations with above ground or underground storage tanks, whether they are old, abandoned, new or operating, and
• Opportunities for paths forward with Brownfields, Environmental Justice, and other resources.
We hope that this discussion will help inform future directions, facilitate access to resources to address gas station sites, and support reuse and redevelopment. We welcome interest in or experience with obstacles or successes to using resources for gas station sites. Please stop by and join in.
Legacy underground storage tanks are a problem everywhere and can be very expensive to close and address properly. Did you know that brownfields funding may be available to help? Join Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council (YRITWC), a tribal response program, and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC’s) Brownfields Program as they discuss opportunities for leveraging Leaking Underground Storage Tanks (LUST) and Brownfields funding. In certain circumstances, combining these resources can expedite the cleanup process of contaminated sites areas while simultaneously promoting redevelopment initiatives. This strategic collaboration aims to maximize the impact of available funding and create healthier, revitalized communities. YRITWC and DEC explore a case study to demonstrate.
