Remember going out into the field and filling out endless paper forms only to get back to office and find some of your paperwork missing, torn, damaged, and/or illegible? Remember when you had to eyeball the open dump site perimeter or area and hope that you were at least +/-50% accurate? GIS is a game changer and EPA and IHS worked together with several Tribes to develop, pilot, and refine a new mobile app.
Attend this interactive hands-on training to learn how to use your mobile device and the IHS ArcGIS Field Maps Open Dump Data Collection App to bypass paper and to enable you to electronically:
(1) obtain site coordinates, perimeters, and area;
(2) document site characteristics including drainage, fencing, and other information;
(3) capture pictures of the site; and
(4) identify open dump contents, quantities, and volumes.
Verified open dump GIS data collected by the App may be used by Tribes, IHS, and/or EPA to evaluate clean-up solutions, estimate costs, and develop potential projects for funding sources such as the EPA GAP program and the IHS Sanitation Deficiency System (SDS) list. All participants will be provided with a temporary license to the app and receive hands on training in the classroom and out in the field!
